MDTC Meeting, August 31, 2009

Members present: Menervia Akers, James Carrigan, Ann Cohen, Mary Cooney-Glazer,

Joan Hanley, Joyce Morgan Kennard, Carl King, Rose Ann McCarthy, Marcia Sweeney,

Phil Sweeney.

Guests present: Sheila Cran-Barry, Joseph Dever, Marjorie Fogg, Hazel Grenham,

Walter Horan, Lucy Slavinsky, Grace Tucker.

Chairman Phil Sweeney called the meeting to order at 7:30 p.m.

The Chairman reported that Jon Jennings has resigned as a member and Treasurer

because he has relocated to Maine. Anyone interested in assuming the role of

Treasurer is asked to contact the Chairman. It is the responsibility of the Treasurer

to file our financial reports to the state. Chairman Sweeney will file the latest

report which will include proceeds from the Annual Picnic. We took in $1,515

and had expenses of $675. Our balance is $1,717. The Committee agreed that

the picnic was a success and thanked Phil Sweeney for the food and Rep. Tierney

for his Washington update and the many volunteer who helped.

The Chairman reported on “Everything You Need to Know About Health Care

Reform Act”. He outlined and explained the major components of the bill. He

brought many reports to the meeting for distribution including: “A Report of

America’s Affordable Health Choices Act” and where to locate accurate

information; A nine-page summary of the bill; A detailed section by section

analysis of the bill. He also referred members to additional resources which

include: Marbleheaddems.org (you can find links to health care info),

“Thomas” (Library of Congress), HealthReform.gov. the Chairman reminded

the members that the purpose of the discussion is to provide enough information

so that we can engage in a positive and informed discussion of the bill. Our

position, positive or negative, should be predicated on facts not hearsay, media

hype or misrepresentations.
