Chairman Sweeney announced that President Obama’s Inaugural Speech is posted moveon.org. He reminded members that much information can be found on Marbleheaddems.org with links to the State Committee site. Notice of meetings and minutes of past meetings can also be found there.
The Chairman reminded members to pay their dues if they have not already done so.
Speakers for the meeting were members Jim Carrigan and Rep. Lori Ehrlich.
The Carrigans and the Ehrlichs both attended the Inauguration of President Obama. Unlike many ofthe stories we have heard ofpeople unable to claim their seats due to the long lines and crush of people, the Carrigans and the
Ehrlichs had seats very close to the stage. While the Carrigans attended many ofthe parties hosted for Massachusetts attendees, the Ehrlichs, who
brought their daughters to Washington, availed themselves of the many sights that can be shared by families. Both mentioned the spirit of the crowds, the many souvenirs available for sale on the streets (The Audacity of Soap?) and agreed that this was a once in a lifetime event they felt privileged to attend.
Chairman Sweeney said that while the Carrigans and Ehrlichs were at the Inaugural, the MDTC hosted an Inaugural Evening Party at Sweeney’s Retreat. It was attended by approximately 70 people from the North Shore.
Also in attendance at the party was a rather stiff representation of our new President who didn’t mind posing for pictures throughout the evening. The “President”, who also attended our January meeting, was presented to Joyce Morgan Kennard in recognition for her tireless work in electing President Obama.
Rep. Ehrlich gave a brief report on the reorganization of the House of Representatives with the election ofRobert DeLeo as Speaker. Lori supported Rep. DeLeo and will know next week what her new committee assignments will be. The members discussed many issues including proposed toll hikes and the Federal Stimulus Package and what effect it could have on Massachusetts if passed. Rep. Ehrlich has made a “wish list” of local projects that could be funded.
The next meeting will be held on Monday, February 23,2009.
